His Excellency the Dean of eLearning and Distance Learning at Umm Al-Qura University officially inaugurated UQU s eLearning and distance learning programs, marking a milestone for the university as a pioneer and leader in this field in the Kingdom. The official inauguration, held on 28th January, 2013, comes three months after the trial launch of the project, executed byNaseejand the eLearning Deanship at UQU using thelatest eLearning technologies from Desire2Learn. The event was held at the King Abdul-Aziz historical podium on the al-Abdiyah campus.
?In his detailed presentation, Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Lehaib the E-Learning & Distance Learning Dean, explained that the new eLearning systems are designed to create an effective learning environment, with student participation and success at its core. In addition, the program will enable UQU faculty to develop effective eLearning courses and to integrate their existing educational programs with the university s eLearning capabilities.

?Naseej VP, Eng. Abdullah Al-Turaifi, stated that UQU is a true leader in eLearning, with a pioneering vision for how to make eLearning work for its students and faculty. Mr. Turaifi told the attendees: All of us at Naseej are proud to have worked with the very professional and forward-looking eLearning Deanship and IT teams at UQU, who played an important role in completing the project successfully and in record time.
With this implementation, UQU joins the ranks of leading universities from around the world that have adopted D2L eLearning systems, including Oxford University, Arizona State and Johns Hopkins Universities, and Canada s Waterloo University, among others.
