Ankabut, the UAE‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎s National Research and Education Network (NREN), hosted two professional workshops at the Girls Campus of Applied Technology High School (ATHS), in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on 4–5 November 2013. The workshops provided training in use of the Learning Management System Platform, now available for Ankabut members from Desire2Learn – the leading provider of innovative e-learning solutions to higher education – and Naseej – the Middle East’s leader in knowledge solutions.

In June 2013, Ankabut partnered with Naseej and Desire2Learn to enable and improve educational and academic institutes’ access to the next-generation pioneering e-learning technologies, and to enhance the learning experience. The workshops were designed to enable instructors who will be using the Desire2Learn Platform to develop courses and deliver effective online sessions.

During two days packed with interactive training meetings Desire2Learn specialists elaborated on a number of key themes, including: Introduction to Desire2Learn Systems; Creation, Accessibility and Management of News; Managing the Content Hub; Creation and Management of Discussion Forums, the Dropbox Folders, Quizzes and Surveys; and Management of Grade Categories and Schemes.

Naseej VP Eng. Abdullah Al Turaifi highlighted the benefits of both workshops, stating: “By the end of these workshops, academics could apply key e-learning environment tools and features to support building universal design principles into their course design and promote learner management. They were able to create, edit and manage content resources, and incorporate vital communication and assessment tools into the course design. For their part, administrative, helpdesk and technical support staff gained a better understanding of how different users will be utilizing the system.”
