Cairo, Egypt, March 10, 2015 Naseej the Arab world’s leader in Knowledge Management Solutions has participated in the Arabic Library day organized by the Arab League’s Administrative Development Organization (ARADO) on March 10, 2015; at the League’s headquarter in Cairo, Egypt.
Naseej offered a presentation titled: “Libraries at Your Fingertips: Mobile Technologies, Libraries & the Changing Information Landscape”. The presentation explored the use of smart phones to provide information services and its impact on libraries. Mobiles now stand as a key component for libraries due to their increased adoption worldwide. In 2014, the number of active cell phones reached 7.3 billion.
The presentation also elaborated on the latest mobile applications for libraries, including Sirsidynix’s MobileCirc and BookMyne for public, national and government libraries, as well as Innovative’s AirPac for academic and research libraries. These applications help librarians effectively perform their collection-related tasks in the stacks, such as item weeding, inventory, pulling on-shelf holds and renewing materials.
On the other hand, patrons can access and search the library catalog on the go. They can download e-books, manage their accounts, find suggested readings and use their device’s camera to scan the item’s barcode.
