Sharjah Libraries has won the “Best Symphony Library in the Middle East” for 2016. The award was announced during the 22nd Annual Conference and Exhibition of the Special Library Association (SLA) Arabian Gulf Chapter, organized on April 1921, 2016 at the Regency Hotel, Kuwait.

The Award nomination applies a number of key factors that are subject to annual review and evaluation. This could include implementation of best practices in resources description and identification, as well as the quality of Symphony operation in serving the library’s objective as a gateway to information and knowledge. Another vital indicator is the library’s creative use of technology to expand the reach of library services, its ability to educate patrons of the latest technologies, and to develop services and programs to enhance its role.

To win the Award, the library should be running on Symphony for Public, National and Cultural Libraries, with a valid license. It should be operating in the Arab region with a majority of its collections in Arabic. In addition to the Award Shield, the winning library receives a grant to attend the Customers of SirsiDynix International for Europe and the Middle East (COSI). Furthermore, the attendee will be able to feature the library in a session during the conference.

More than 3000 libraries worldwide are using the SirsiDynix’s Symphony, 150 libraries of which are in the Arab region alone. Naseej  the Arab world’s leader in Knowledge Management Solutions offers Symphony for Public, National and Cultural Libraries.
